Garmin dominates the GPS running watch market. They sell more GPS watches than Polar, Suunto, TomTom, Coros, and Fitbit combined.

Important things to know about the Garmin API integration:

  1. New runs are pushed automatically to Smashrun once you've connected your account. They'll show up shortly after your watch syncs to Garmin Connect.
  2. Clicking the sync button will request your running history from Garmin. These runs will be sent by Garmin over the next few hours.
  3. Garmin will not export any runs older than 5 years through its official API. Garmin currently offers no official way to bulk export older runs, but their are still some tricks you can use to export your older Garmin data.
  4. Garmin does not export 3rd party activities. If you've recorded a run with another app or device (Zwift for example) then that run can not be exported from Garmin.
  5. You can easily import FIT, TCX, and GPX files exported from Garmin into Smashrun. Just add them to a zip file and send it to username@smashrunimport.com

Coros watches have the best GPS accuracy and battery life of any watch we've tested.

Important things to know about the Coros API integration:

  1. New runs are pushed automatically to Smashrun once you've connected your account. They'll show up in less than 5 minutes.
  2. Clicking the sync button will request your running history from Coros. The full import should take no longer than 30 minutes.
  3. You can easily import FIT files exported from Coros into Smashrun. Just add them to a zip file and send it to username@smashrunimport.com

Fitbit built the original all day activity tracker. The newer devices do a solid job of tracking runs as well.

Important things to know about the Fitbit API integration:

  1. New and historical runs are synced when you click the Smashrun sync button. Unfortunately we can't autosync your runs from Fitbit because of an issue with their API. Please help us resolve this by taking a moment to upvote this Fitbit bug report.
  2. Fitbit will properly track your run if you explicitly start an activity. If instead, you just start running and rely on the watch to autorecogne your run, you'll often lose a good bit of distance.
  3. You can easily import TCX files exported from Fitbit into Smashrun. Just add them to a zip file and send it to username@smashrunimport.com

Polar invented the world's first portable heart rate monitor in 1975. They remain a leader in heart rate training.

Important things to know about the Polar API integration:

  1. New runs are pushed automatically to Smashrun once you've connected your account.
  2. Polar has no official historical data API. To sync your historical data we make use of an unofficial API that can retrieve TCX files for your entire history.
  3. You can easily import TCX files exported from Polar into Smashrun. Just add them to a zip file and send it to username@smashrunimport.com

TomTom built solid and inexpensive GPS running watches until 2017. Smashrun can still sync runs from those old watches if you run with one.

Important things to know about the TomTom API integration:

  1. Smashrun syncs runs from TomTom MySports when you click the sync button. There is no automatic sync, but if you visit Smashrun on a mobile device it will kick off a sync immediately.
  2. TomTom's OAuth implementation is a bit weird. If you want to disconnect your TomTom account and connect it to another Smashrun account, you need to go to the TomTom MySports site and remove the connection by hand.
  3. Import via email - email multiple GPX/TCX/FIT files or a zipped version of many GPX/TCX/FIT files to username@smashrunimport.com

Nike Run Club is one of the most popular running apps, but they've gone through great lengths to prevent users from exporting their data.

About Nike:

  1. In 2017 Nike took its fitness website and API offline rather than allow GDPR mandated data export. Since then Smashrun has no longer been able to sync data directly from Nike.
  2. There are at least a few ways you can still export your Nike running data.
  3. There are many good alternatives to Nike+ that allow you to export your data. iSmoothRun (iOS) and Sportractive (Android) are two great independent apps that allow you to easily export your data. Adidas Running, MapMyRun and Strava are all also great alternatives.

The Microsoft Band was a brilliant device packed with sensors. It didn't last long. We can no longer import from Microsoft Health since it was shut down.

Magellan created the first handheld GPS receiver in 1989. Unfortunate their fitness watches never really caught on and the Magellan Active site we synced data from was shuttered.
